Songs of Hope Logo Songs of Hope International Concert
Sounds of Hope Group Picture
Wednesday, July 16th, 2008
7:00 p.m.
For its seventeenth season, the award winning Songs of Hope tour
will present a talented company of children aged 10-22 from
China, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Israel, and Turkey,
along with local Minnesota performers.
The concert will feature a lively program of
international songs, dances, percussion, and folk dress,
with live music by a band of outstanding local musicians,
led by percussionist Mick LaBriola.
Continuing a commitment started after Hurricane Katrina,
the Songs of Hope concert will again include a special salute to the music of New Orleans,
this time focusing on African slave roots of jazz and blues,
and tracing music from Africa through Haiti and Cuba to Louisiana.
The Songs of Hope organizers have vowed to include
New Orleans music in every summer tour
until the city is rebuilt and its rich musical culture is no longer at risk.
The concert program will also offer rich and tuneful songs
from Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and other places.
This concert is free
and open to the public!

What makes a healthy community?
Sunday, July 19th, 2008
11:30 a.m. following Worship
Did you know the United States spends
the most money on health care among the world’s industrialized nations,
yet we have the worst health outcomes? Why is this happening?
Lutheran Church of the Redeemer Core Team and
ISAIAH will host a “Health Equity Forum,”
a one-hour program
about health and healthy communities in our city and state.
What does it take to create a healthy community?
What are some of the things that impact our health?

RUMMAGE SALE
August ?
Traditionally, the Redeemer Rummage Sale has been planned and
executed primarily by the Women’s Guild.
This year we are looking forward to making it an entire church event!
We are looking for help with promoting the event,
passing out flyers to friends and neighbors, collecting items, sorting items,
setting up before the sale, “manning” or “womanning” tables during the sale, and cleanup.
There will be a number of opportunities for you to share your time, talents and treasures!
We will have both daytime and evening slots available,
so that everyone will be able to help regardless of his or her schedule.
This is a great congregational fundraiser,
and we can receive up to $1,300 in matching funds from Thrivent!
We usually make about $3,500 total, but this year, with your help,
we know it will be an even greater success!
Watch for more details in the Sunday service sheets during August!

LIBRARY HELP NEEDED
Redeemer’s library needs some tender, loving care.
If you are able to spend a few hours
arranging books and improving the general appearance
of our library / conference room,
please call the office or Colleen Danner.
The work may be done whenever the room is not in use.

DO YOU HAVE E-MAIL?
We are seeking better ways to communicate with members and friends of Redeemer,
and cut costs of mailing at the same time (with postage rates continuing to grow).
If you have electronic mail (e-mail) access and
would like to receive your Redeemer Record and other communications by e-mail instead of by paper,
please send an email to the email address listed below.
Or simply write down your address and leave it in the offering plate in worship on Sunday.
Please help us reduce our mailing costs.
