Daily Work
Daily Work’s mission is to strengthen families, congregations, and communities by assisting job seekers in preparing for finding, and maintaining living wage jobs. Daily Work’s goal is for referred clients to be working towards living wage employment with the support and assistance of Daily Work and other coordinated support organizations.
Compline and Concerts Update
On November 22, the Compline & Concert series featured vocalists Bill Strom and Gordon Gathright and families in a fundraiser for Daily Work, Redeemer’s shared ministry to assist people in establishing sustainable employment.  The concert featured a variety of musical selections that were enjoyable and well performed by the artists.
Following the Compline service there was a reception which was generously provided by the Compline & Concert series supporters.   During the reception there was an opportunity to hear one of Daily Work’s clients speak about his struggles and triumphs in moving forward and the support that he has received from Daily Work.
In response to the concert and fundraiser, attendees donated more than $1,000 to support Daily Work.  These gifts are gratefully accepted and ac-knowledged.  Daily Work thanks the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer com-munity for its on-going support and generosity.

Daily Work Update
In 2008 Lutheran Church of the Redeemer continued to work closely with Daily Work. Daily Work is grateful for the continued support provided by Lutheran Church of the Redeemer members. Pastor Jim continues as an active Daily Work Board member and in that capacity has provided leadership and guidance, directing this ministry in providing assistance to those in our community. Rhynda Landt has compiled a detailed guide to social services in the community that has been a helpful resource to us as we assist people in need of support. Various Redeemer members have forwarded job leads and referrals which are useful in opening doors of employment for Daily Work participants.
In the past two years Daily Work has served a total fo 102 job seekers. Among these 102 clients there were 68 job placements. Of those placements, 30 continue to be stably employed; i.e., are regularly working without the intervention of Daily Work. Daily Work continues working with who have not yet found employment or who are underemployed. In analyzing the clients from 2007 - 2008, 40% are women, 64% are foreign-born, 4% have physical disabilities, 6% have criminal histories and 47% have significant language barriers. The ethnic backgrounds of clients served were 42% African, 26% European American, 22% Asian, 9% African American, 1% Latino, and 47% have significant language barriers.
Daily Work anticipates expanding services in 2009 to assist the growing number of people in difficult economic circumstances as a result of the country's recession. We are grateful for Redeemer's prayers, concern, and volunteer support in helping us in carrying out this vital ministry and look forward to rising to the challenges of the year ahead.
